Saturday, 21st March 2009 at 7.30 p.m Bedford Choral Society with Bedford Sinfonia Solists: Evangelist- Alexander Sprague Christus - Callum Thorpe Soprano - Frederique Klooster Alto - Lucie Spickova Tenor - Andrew Dickinson Bass - Jonathan McGovern Conductor: Michael Rose We start off the new year by performing the great Bach masterpiece St. John Passion, with its many beautiful arias, accompanied by orchestral writing of unfailing originality. This inspirational work, pervaded by a quality of tenderness, combines music of appropriate gravitaswith uplifting choruses and hymn-like chorales. We are very glad to welcome back tenor Alexander Sprague, on this occasion, to sing the role of Evangelist, while newcomer Callum Thorpe sings Christus. They are joined by a group of equally promising young singers: soprano, Frederique Klooster; alto, Lucie Spickova; tenor, Andrew Dickinson and baritone, Jonathan McGovern.
